SUMMARY

I helped imagine & design a location-based app.

OPPORTUNITY SPACE

The David Letterman Learning Experience project team sought to create a uniting and cross-generational experience for Ball State University's current and past students.

Using landmarks on campus as "hot spots," players will be able to engage with stories and play trivia to earn perks.

PROJECT GOALS

Create a fun and engaging experience that appeals to a cross-generational audience.

Design for a cross-platform experience that includes and and a large interactive tabletop screen.

KEY FOCUS AREAS

Location content including stories and trivia.

Tracking progress across multiple locations around campus and Muncie.

Overall visual aesthetics was crucial to ensure a positive and fun emotional appeal.

Smooth and easy-to-use navigation

The use of universal design components to ensure that users are familiar with the experience.

Using sketches (left) and Post-It Notes
(right), we were able to conceptualize and understand the path of the user.

PROTOTYPING

I used Adobe XD and Photoshop to design and prototype the overall experience.

ON LOCATION

Users can swipe through a carousel of stories related to the location they are presently at.

TRACKING PROGRESS

At any point during the entire gameplay, users can view their progress on the Goodie Bag screen. This screen allows them to track both their overall and location-specific progress.

Trivia

At every location, users can play a quick trivia game to earn perks. After a user answers a question correctly, they can learn more about the question and also view the perk instantly before moving to other locations.

Perks

Who does not like a good reward? Answering trivia questions correctly earns a user a perk. Players can view all the perks available for them to earn as they go through the experience.

TYPE SELECTION

The team considered several typefaces but selected Nunito because of its well-roundedness and fun emotional appeal.

LEARNINGS
HAND-OFF AND INTERFACING WITH THE DEVELOPER
Due to class schedules and the limited amount of face-to-face interaction with the developer, certain specifications were lost in transit. I could have done more to more specific about the implementation of the intricacies of the overall design.
